The NASSP and the NIAAA are proud to endorse the new NFHS Coach Education Program, which has been designed with and for interscholastic teacher/coaches and administrators. The educational value of athletics depends largely on how the activity is structured, and in general, translates into what the teacher/coach chooses to teach and model. When structured appropriately, athletics offer a vehicle to teach students skills that contribute to the overall educational development of each participant.

Launched in January 2007, Fundamentals of Coaching is the signature course of the NFHS Coach Education program and stresses a unique student-centered curriculum emphasizing the role of the teacher/coach in promoting learning and the creation of a healthy and developmentally-appropriate athletic experience.
